Basil has been called the king of all herbs. If grown in a pot indoors, it will help to discourage the files. Method of use : Widely used in Mediterranean cuisine as culinary. To prepare the infusion, pour 2 table sp. of herb with one cup of hot water for 20 minutes and drink one cup a day.

The tea made with Borage is good for relief from colds, flu and is also diuretic. It has many other medicinal properties such as being aperient, febrifuge, pectorant, aphrodisiac and anti-inflammatory and is good for heart. Preparation : Borage flowers and leaves can be used for salads and other foods. To prepare an infusion, Pour 3 tbsp of the herb in 1 cup of hot water for few minutes and drink 1 to 3 cups a day. Borage is used in formulation of the “Green Tea”.
Chamomile is the most demanded medicinal herb throughout the world. It is used in many skin care products such as creams, lotions, soups, toothpaste and many others. Chamomile tea is widely used because of its beneficial effects; Medicinally, it is effective as mild hypnotic and sedative and also is good for stomachache. In care products, its extract is used as a tonic and brightener of light colored hair. Preparation : Infusion is prepared with 1 tbsp of herb with one cup to of hot water. Filter and consume 2 cups a day. The infusion can also be used as rinse to clean the face.
Cumin seed is one of the most widely used condiments for Asian foods and preparation of curry powder. It is a good appetizer and eases the digestion. It also has many medicinal benefits such as being antiflatulent, stomachache and astringent. Methed of use : 20 grams of the powder is to be brewed in 0.5 litre of hot water for 30 minutes and one to three cups consumed per day. In cooking it is used directly in rice, bread, cheese and many other types of food.
The fruits of Dog rose contain large amount of vitamin C in addition to citric and malic acid and sugars. It is useful to increases body’s resistance to colds and flue. It is a good tonic and helps treatment of Kindney’s ailments. Boil in a pot for a few minutes and drink as tea.
Contains saponins, vitamin C, tanins and many other compounds. It increases lactation and is also diurectic. It is also beneficial as antirheumatic and expectorant and if taken early stages it is helpful for flu or colds. Combining it with fennel stimulates lactation in lactating mothers. Normally used with other plants such as valerian.
Feverfew is one of the herbs cultivated in K.A.C and contains special sesquiterpene lactones which are effective in treatment of migrane and period pain. It is also anti-inflammatory. Use : A tea spoon full of the powdered plant to be taken daily with the help of a little water. Note : Patients using blood thining drugs should not use this plant since it effects clotting rates.
Garlic powder is rich in compounds containing sulfur which have antimicrobial effect in the gasteric tract. Garlic also can be used as an expectorant. It is also helpful in treating arterioscklrosis and has the capability to slightly reduce blood pressure. Lowering cholesterol, being antiseptic and fungicidal, prevention of plattlet aggregation, being anti cancer are some other properties of garlic.
Geranium is one of the fragrant herbs which its aromatic compounds have properties such as Antidepressant, Tonic, Analgesic, Diuretic and Sedative. The best method to use is preparation of a decoction just like tea.
Hawthorn flower is one of the important medicinal herbs. It is antispasmodic, cardiac vasodilator and lowers high blood pressure and regulates heart action. It also is beneficial for insomnia due to nervous conditions. Method of use : Pour 2 tbsp of flowers brewed with one cup of hot water for 30 minutes and use 1-1.5 cups a day. Caution: In the serious heart and blood pressure cases always seek the physician’s advice.
Is one of the best and oldest natural hair dyes used in many parts of the world. Its extract is also applied in the formula of shampoos and hair tonics to bring luster, shine and health to the sculp and hair. It is suitable for black and brown hair. Preparation : Required amount of Henna to be mixed either with hot water or with strong real coffee and egg yolk and applied as a paste on the hair until the desired color is produced.

It also has external use for burns, cuts and blisters as poultice. Method of use : Infusion. It is prepared with 1 tbsp of herb with 1 cup of hot water. For internal use, 1 cup per day is the recommended dose and for external use as poultice.
Lavender from many centuries ago has been recognized as one of the best scented gifted by the nature. Lavender in small sachets have been used to perfume clothes, bed sheets, closet, rooms and etc. Furthermore, Lavender would act as a useful insect repellent. Lavender and its oil are also one of best remedies for burns and stings. It is also excellent to help heal cuts and has a strong antibacterial action. Lavender will kill the diphtheria and typhoid’s bacilli as well as streptococcus. Lavender has traditionally been used to treat chest infections, cough, either as an infusion or inhalation. It has sedative properties and is good for calming anxiety and tension as well as relaxing spasms of the digestive tract. In general terms, Lavender is diurectic, carminative, tonic, antispasmodic, anthemintic and antibiotic. A tea brewed with 5 grams of Lavender in one liter of water could be taken 3-4 cups between the meals for headache, fatigue and exhaustion. Boiled Lavender with water can be used as a gargle and mouthwash. Lavender has many application in herbal bath, skin care beauty products.
H15-Melissa Officinalis (Lemon balm):
Melissa has got a very valuable oil, comprising citral, citronella, eugenol acetate, geraniol and other components such as polyphenols, tannin, rosemarinic acid and trierpenoids. Can be used as Culinary with fish, mushrooms and soft cheese. Medicinal use : for colds, flu, depression and relieves flatulence and colic headache and indigestion. If taken after meals, eases the digestion. Scientific research, now supports its use since the oils (particularly eugenol) have antispasmodic activites. Another important medical use of Melissa is to promote menstrual periods and ease period pains. Hot infusion of Melissa are useful for treating colds and flu. Steam 5-10 grams of dried herb in 1/2 litter hot boiling water for 15-20 minutes and drink gradually with or without sweetening.
As culinary, Licorice is used as flavoring agent in confectionary and drinks. It is one of the most commonly used herbal remedies because it has the ability to harmonize and blend all the other herbs in a prescription and it is useful to mask the taste of many bitter remedies. It contains glycyrrhizin which is 50 times sweeter than sugar. It is itself a most valuable medicine. It demonstrates activities as antiinflammatory, antiarthritis. The adrenal-like effect also makes it anti-allergic. Its other properties includes, remedy for digestive system, laxative, reduction of stomach acid level, relieving heartburn, toxin neutralizer and many others. Preparation : Prepare the decoction with one tb sp of herb in one cup of boiling water and drink 1 cup a day. Caution : avoid licorice if you have high blood pressure.
H17-London Rocket Seeds:
London Rocket seeds is used as anti-diarrhea and Laxative and for stomachache. Its consumption in small amounts is anti-diarrhea while at higher amounts it acts as a Laxative. Generally 10-15 g. is soaked in water and consumed with a little sugar, At this dose it acts as a Laxative.
Useful whenever a soothing effect is needed. Taken as a warm infusion, the leaves treat cystitis and frequent urination. Marshmallow also brings relief to dry coughs, bronchial asthma, bronchial congestion and pleurisy.
Myrtle is mainly used externally for treatment of skin disorders and also is an effective mouthwash. Internally, it is used to reduce and treat symptoms of the urinary and respiratory system. It is antiseptic and is good for stomachache and coughs. Method of use : 20 grams is to be brewed in one liter of water for 30 minute and then filtered. Drink one or two cups a day. For external use apply the decoction on the required area and cover with sterile gauze. Caution : Not to be used by pregnant women and nursing mothers. Avoid long term internal use.
Orange is a tree with 4-5 m height, possessing leaves with distinct petiole and pentamerous flowers. The succulent and caducous flowers are very aromatic with fine fragrance. The active components in Neroli among others includes Hydrocarbons such as Terpenic alcohols, Linalol, Terpinol, Geraniol, Nerol, Dimethyl antranilate, Indol, Phenol and etc. Neroli is appetizing,mild sedatve, cardiotonic, unticonvulsive, strenghts the nervous system and helps easing flatulence and colics specially in children. Boil 5-10 grams of Neroli in two cups of water for 3 minutes and then steam for 20 minutes and drink with or without sweetening.
Oregano is a very powerful antiseptic herb when used both inside and outside and if taken freely in the diet can help maintain a high resistance to diseases. It is one of the herbs that its aroma and flavour increases when dried. Keep some dried leaves handy in a sealed glass jar and if someone faints bring out the “jar of the mountain”. Medicinally it is very effective in stomach problems such as peptic ulcers, bladder and kidney ailments. It is also laxative and diuretic and removes mucous. Preparation : Prepare the decoction with one tbsp of the herb in a cup of boiling water for a few minutes and drink 1 cup a day. Caution : In case of high blood pressure do not use.

It is astrigent, sudorific, stimulating, carminative and is good for stomachache. The tea made by Rosemary, if taken hot, would cure all kind of the headaches and colds. In cases of stomach and intestinal troubles, Rosemary has proved to be useful. In Kitchen , Rosemary, from many years ago, has been utilized in many foods specially lamb, chicken and pizza, as well as jellies and fruit juices. Note : Rosemary, should not be taken in large dose. Otherwies, it would cause some mild poisoning.
The common sage, the familiar plant of kitchen is an evergreen under-shrub. All parts of the plant have a strong, scented odor and a warm, bitter taste. It has been proven by experience that sage quickens the senses and memory, strengthens the sinews and takes away trembling of muscles. Use sage in meat dishes and soup and enjoy the taste. Sage tea or infusion of sage is a valuable agent in the delirium of fevers and in nervous excitement. It is highly serviceable as a stimulant tonic in debility of the stomach and nervous system and weakness of digestion generally. To make salvia tea, 5 grams of Salvia to be steamed in half a liter boilling water.
Sedar(Ziziphus Spina-Christi) is the most useful natural washing agent for hair. It prevents hair loss, split hair ends and gives luster and gives shine to hair. Method of use : Mix the powder with enough water to produce a thin paste. Massage into scalp and hair. Rinse after 10 to 15 minutes.
Senna (Cassia Senna) is the best and most effective plant for treatment of constipation. It cleans the digestive tract and is also diurectic and anthelminitic. The decoction is useful as a mounth wash and treats bad breath. Method of use : 10 grams of Senna leaves are brewed in 0.5 litre boiling water for 30 minutes one cup a day as laxative and two cup a day as purgative and anthelminitic. The filtered solution can also be used as mouthwash to remove bad breath. While brewing Senna leaves tea, a spoonful of Cinnamon and Coriander seeds are to be added. Caution : Not to be used by pregnant women and nursing mothers.
Spearmint is known as a soothing and pleasant digestive aid. It has general use in foods, culinary and as flavouring agent. The plant is also known to be antispasmodic, carminative, diuretic and stimulant. It also relleves stomachic and is beneficial for colds, cough and migraine. Preparation : Pour 1 tbsp herb in 1 cup of hot water for 30 minutes and drink frequently. Spearmint is a fine flavoring agent and can be added directly to yogurt, salads, soup and many others.

Apart from being astringent, it is diurectic tonic and stops internal bleeding of the urinary tract and hemorroids and reduces excessive discharge during monthly period. The decoction is a fine hair rinse and stops hair loss. Method of use : Two tbsp of the herb is to be brewed for 20 minutes with a glass of hot water. Drink two or three cups a day. To avoid hair loss rinse the hair after shampooing with the above and rinse with water few minutes. Nettle can be used in foods such as stews instead or along with other vegetables.
Sumac is one the finest condiments used in foods. A tea made from Sumac has astringent, diuretic, antipyretic and tonic properties.
